Roberta Marzani had already won at the Mediterranean Games in 2018 in Tarragona, Spain, while in 2022 in Oran (Algeria) she reached the podium with a bronze medal. This time, eight years later, the Bergamo épée fencer of the Army confirmed herself as queen of the Mediterranean with another brilliant gold medal. Roberta, who was among the favorites for the final victory, showed she was in good shape from the group stage. In the main knockout bracket at PalaRicciardi, Marzani defeated (15-8) the Slovenian Francesca Parmesani, won 15-11 in the semifinal against the Turkish Aleyna Erturk, while the final was exciting and uncertain with the Bergamo épée fencer coming from behind to beat the Spaniard Daniela Pinyol Tomas 15-14.

Mari is 26th with Albania
The men’s épée bouts were won by the Egyptian Mohamed Elsayed, who prevailed 14-11 in the final over his compatriot Youssef Shamel. In the same ranking also competed Massimo Mari of Scherma Bergamo: the Orobic épée fencer, who holds an Albanian passport, defended the colors of the Balkan national team, finishing his first participation in the multidisciplinary event of Taranto 2026 in 26th place.
