Martina Fidanza finished sixth in the individual time trial at the Mediterranean Games. The Bergamasca specialist, 26 years old, on the 17-kilometer course in Taranto was 39 seconds behind the winner, the French Amandine Muller, who finished in 22’37” at an average speed of 45.080 km/h. The Spanish Sandra Alonso came second by only 45 hundredths, the Slovak Nika Bobnar at 24” completed the podium. The other Italian, Elena Cecchini, missed the bronze by just one second.
Fourth place also for Maestri
And a fourth place also came for Italy in the men’s race over the same distance: it was won by Mirco Maestri (17 seconds behind), immediately followed by his teammate Luca Giaimi (24). The Portuguese Tiago Antunes was on top, leading the race with a time of 20’05”, average 50.748. In the tight battle for the other two podium spots, the Cypriot Bogdan Zabelinskiy preceded the other Portuguese Rafael Reis.

The event will resume Monday, August 24 with the road race: Italy will field Martina Fidanza, Elena Cecchini, Rachele Barbieri, and Barbara Guarischi in the women’s race, Tommaso Dati, Federico Iacomoni, Mirco Maestri, and Luca Giaimi in the men’s race.
