This weekend, the absolute Italian Athletics Championships will be held, a decisive moment for the composition of the Azzurri team that will take part in the European Championships scheduled in the United Kingdom, from 9 to 16 August. BergamoAtletica will participate with 18 elements (plus any qualifiers among the 19 participants in the Challenge starting this morning) some of whom have a chance to join marathon runners Ahmed Ouhda and Xavier Chevrier and race walkers Federica Curiazzi and Nicole Colombi, already pre-selected by Fidal.
Pavese for the 100m pass
Having turned twenty-eight a few days ago, Alessia Pavese had never arrived at a national event in such good form. Having returned to improve her 100-meter time after a thousand days in Paris (late June), a couple of weeks ago the Air Force athlete, who grew up in Villa di Serio, dropped to 11”19 (fourth fastest ever in Italy): her call-up for the 4×100 relay is certain, but for that individual spot, which would be the icing on the cake, a hundredth of a second improvement (IAAF minimum) is needed to bypass a currently penalizing ranking. In summary: the dream is to try and compete with indoor world champion Zaynab Dosso, but the real challenge to win is against the clock.
Zenoni seeks confirmation in the 1,500m
Marta Zenoni (Luiss, 1500 meters) has so far run below the required federal standards, but this is not synonymous with a call-up: in the three-way race with Cavalli and Sabbatini, the 27-year-old “globetrotter” from Ranica is looking for a test of efficiency, both technical and chronological, useful for turning around a season that has so far been two-speed. Two years after the Olympic final in Paris, Emmanuel Ihemeje (Aeronautica), who is worth much more than his 16.09 accreditation, will be seen again on the triple jump runway where Diaz and Dallavalle will also be present. The limits for Filippo Dezza (Bergamo Stars), who dropped to 21”64 in the 200 meters (14 hundredths from the continental pass), are also yet to be established: behind Desalu, there will be license to amaze. More or less the same slogan applies to Eric Marek (Esercito, 10”28 season best), among the possible protagonists of the men’s 100 meters where, alongside His Majesty Marcell Jacobs, there will also be the experience of Roberto Rigali (Carabinieri).

All the others
Gaia Colli (Carabinieri) will start with the best accreditation in the 3,000m steeplechase, Hassane Fofana (Fiamme Oro) with the fourth in the 110m hurdles: at 34, he will be the veteran of the group, while the youngster will be Francesco Efeosa Crotti (2007, triple jump) from outside. Sebastiano Parolini (Gav) is chasing a podium finish in the men’s 5,000 meters where Matteo Bardea (Atl. Valle Brembana) will also be present. Currently, five local clubs are sure to be represented, with Atl. Pianura Bergamasca fielding Francesco Camilli (400m hurdles) and Atl. Bergamo 59 Oriocenter with thrower Gioele Tengattini and hurdlers Michele Arrigoni and Chiara Minotti. As for the others with extra-provincial club uniforms, Lidia Barcella will be in the 10 km race walk and Sofia Frigerio in the javelin throw, both from Bracco di Milano.
