No final in the 200 butterfly, but for the Bergamo native Andrea Camozzi the debut with the senior National Team is still to be recorded with satisfaction. At the European Swimming Championships in Paris the 20-year-old Italian was indeed a protagonist in the heats held on the morning of Friday, August 14: second place in the second heat in 1’55”95 behind the other Italian Alberto Razzetti (first 1’54”64) and fifth overall time with qualification to the semifinals in the afternoon. The hunt for a place in the Saturday final, however, was unsuccessful: after dreaming for three lengths (second place at 150 meters), Camozzi lost ground in the final length finishing the race in fifth position with 1’56”06, with the eleventh overall position 18 hundredths from eighth place which was worth the final.
“Now the Mediterranean Games”
“It was my debut with the senior national team – said the Bergamo native to Rai microphones – and making the semifinal allows me to close the European Championships with a positive balance. Also, my season with the national team is not over, because I will be competing at the Mediterranean Games: I will try to redeem myself in this event, maybe coming back with a medal.”
