Pigato gave up after an hour and 18 minutes of play. The 23-year-old from Bergamo put a lot of heart into it, but could not do much to counter her opponent. After all, it was known beforehand that it would be a complicated feat for Lisa as she was coming back from a back injury, a stress fracture, which had kept her out for some time. She had trained normally for only four days and therefore faced Klimovicova far from optimal physical and athletic condition.

Here’s why the knockout cannot be considered disappointing, even though Pigato boasts a better ranking than her opponent: no. 130 in the WTA ranking against no. 133 of the Polish player. There were some moments when the match seemed to be able to get on the path of balance, but there was never a real leap in quality from the 23-year-old from Bergamo who clearly lost with a double 6-3.
