Reading time less than a minute.Triumphant return to Italy for Italy’s athletics team, first in the medal table at the European Championships in Birmingham with 22 medals (ten gold, six silver, and six bronze): the Azzurri landed at Orio al Serio airport with their haul of medals on the afternoon of Monday, August 17, amid applause from fans, enthusiasts, and passengers transiting through the Orobic hub. A parade at “Caravaggio,” among others, for Nadia Battocletti (gold in the 5,000 and 10,000), Sofia Fiorini (gold in the race walk marathon), Pietro Riva (silver in the marathon), and Rebecca Lonedo (team silver in the marathon).

And some of the athletes from the Bergamo delegation also marched: Alexandrina Mihai (silver medal in the 21 km race walk), a Veronese living in the Bergamo area and coached by Massimiliano Cortinovis. Then the sprinters from Bergamo Stars Filippo Dezza (seventh in the 200 meters final) and Roberto Rigali, welcomed by president Dante Acerbis.
