New adventure abroad for the globetrotting striker Godberg Cooper, 29-year-old Italo-Ghanaian from Albano Sant’Alessandro. His transfer to Malta is official, signed by Birzebbuga, an ambitious club competing in the local Serie A. “I am very happy to be here – explains the striker -. I thank God, because faith has always played an important role in my life and career. From the first contacts with the club, I sensed something important: great ambition, enthusiasm and above all the will, on the part of the new ownership, to build a serious and winning project. CEO Mr. Ketan Makwana and Joseph Fenech played a very important role in my choice: they made me feel truly wanted by the club. The first impressions of Malta are definitely very positive. It is a very beautiful country, I am feeling good here. The championship is continuously growing: important players are arriving, including footballers who have had very high-level careers, and there are many Italian professionals.”

“I want to be decisive”

Raised in Atalanta’s youth academy, Cooper is a well-known face in Bergamo football, for his past with Aurora Seriate, Scanzorosciate and Verdello. In 2017 his career took a turn with the choice to fly abroad, first in the Portuguese lower leagues and from there to higher levels in Switzerland, Albania (with Kukesi in 2020 scoring in the Europa League against Slavia Sofia), Macedonia (cup won with Makedonija), Romania, Kazakhstan (super cup won with Tobol), United Arab Emirates and again Romania. “I arrive in Malta with an important baggage of experiences gained in different countries and championships, but above all still with a lot of hunger – he says -. I want to be a protagonist, let the field and numbers speak, trying to win something important. The Ghana National Team is definitely one of my biggest motivations, my main short-term goal is to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027: a target I have very clear in my mind and it gives me huge motivation. I have to be decisive here and prove through performances that I deserve this opportunity.”
