The last day of the Under 18 European Athletics Championships opens with a true triumph for Italy, which brings the number of medals won in the ongoing event in Rieti to five. The satisfaction comes once again from race walking, a discipline that has often seen the Italians as protagonists and this time brought gold in the women’s 5000 meters with Rebecca D’Alessandro and bronze with Caterina Carissimi, the first Bergamo podium in this event.

The representative of Polisportiva Tethys Chieti repeated the success achieved two years ago in Banská Bystrica by training partner Serena Di Fabio, crossing the finish line in 22’58”95. Second place went to the Spaniard Paula Elvira who battled with Carissimi until the last lap for the silver, finishing the race in 23’18”98, while the athlete from Bergamo competing for Atletica Brescia 1950 completed the podium. The 16-year-old from Scanzorosciate had the best time among the starters, but had to settle for third place in 23’21”37.

“First blue jersey, first year in the category: I am really happy. Competing on the last day seemed like a burden, a drag, I wanted to get it over with immediately, I wanted to compete right away. Seeing Kelly, Davide, Antony manage to win in this stadium really pumped me up.
