Very few had already experienced the only day similar to this as protagonists. For many, the celebration of promotion to Serie A after 36 years seemed like a mirage. In the eyes and hearts of everyone, from the mini-rugby children to the parents of athletes and coaches of Italian Floor Design Rugby Bergamo 1950, it is a deserved prize. There could not have been a more suitable setting than the Sghirlanzoni, the scene of many victories this season for the group coached by Roberto Schipani: from the changing rooms to the center of the field, captain Davide Orlandi walked a corridor painted yellow, red, and black together with his teammates returning from their victory over Brixia in the playoff final.
On behalf of the municipal administration, in addition to the Sports Councillor Marcella Messina, the words spoken on stage by Deputy Mayor Sergio Gandi: «You are a great source of pride for the city and the entire territory. We are grateful to you because you have elevated the history of Bergamo in a context like that of rugby, which is fundamental for the social value it carries. This is a sport of cohesion, solidarity, friendship, and professionalism: Rugby Bergamo has demonstrated this, adding great human intensity».

After the medals were presented to each player, accompanying staff, manager, technical and medical staff member, the most touching words were spoken by Simone Rota, a second-row player and veteran of the group: «We are sure that Filippo Giganti (former Rugby Bergamo player, who died at 20 in 2023 after a long illness, editor’s note) is watching us from above. We had made a promise to him and to Eric’s parents (who passed away in October 2025 due to an incurable form of brain tumor, he played in the Under 8, editor’s note): we would bring them to Serie A too. We made it».
Donati: «A great family»
Before the mini-rugby children’s tournaments, which characterized the rest of the afternoon at Sghirlanzoni, began, a remembrance from President Giulio Donati was inevitable: «The goal that has been achieved and that we must continue to pursue is the involvement of an extended family. A family that continues to grow and believes in planning. The first team’s result is clear for all to see, but I want to emphasize the interaction we have with the parents of the youth players: they always thank the club for bringing their children to a place where they learn to respect the rules. The quality of the work of volunteers and coaches has been measured in every category: the adventure in B also had small disappointments, overcome with unity and mutual trust within the group». And so, the celebrations began, with queues at the food and bar stands set up for the occasion and a splash of water balloons to cool off from the hot afternoon in via Pizzo della Presolana: Rugby Bergamo has given itself a dream, and has no intention of waking up quickly.
