On Tuesday, August 1st, Atalanta officially announced the loan of Jonathan Rowe from Bologna, on a temporary basis with the right and obligation to buy upon the occurrence of certain conditions.
Who is Jonathan Rowe
A key figure in England’s success at the 2025 U21 European Championship, Jonathan was born in London to Jamaican parents on April 30, 2003. After his first kicks at AFC Wembley, the local team where he grew up, he then developed his talent in the youth ranks of Norwich City, completing his entire path early and debuting in the first team at just seventeen in an EFL Trophy match. In the 2021/22 season, he made his first Premier League appearances (13 in total), debuting at the end of December in the away match against Crystal Palace.
With five goals in the first five games across all competitions, he immediately carved out a leading role in the 2023/24 season, finishing with a tally of 12 goals in the English Championship. An important year, also enriched by the EFL Young Player of The Month award for August 2023, which earned him a call from Olympique Marseille. In France, he took only four matches to score his first Ligue 1 goal, and it was no ordinary goal: he scored in the 95th minute the 3-2 victory for OM at Olympique Lyon’s ground.

He ended the season with 31 appearances across all competitions, 3 goals and 4 assists. At 22, he received the call from Italy, from Bologna, with whom he debuted in Serie A on September 14, 2025, at Milan’s stadium. In his first “Italian” season, he scored three league goals (one of these, a splendid bicycle kick that decided the match in injury time against Napoli, was awarded May’s goal of the month by Lega Serie A) and one decisive goal in the Coppa Italia to beat Parma; he also gained important experience in the UEFA Europa League, contributing with 4 goals and 2 assists to reaching the quarter-finals (one of his goals came in the 4-3 victory at the Rome Olympic Stadium in the round of 16 second leg).
Jonathan was also a protagonist with the England U21 team with which he won the 2025 European Championship, providing a fundamental and decisive contribution to winning the title: after scoring in the opening match of the competition against the Czech Republic, he repeated himself in the final by scoring the decisive goal with a diving header in extra time in the 3-2 victory against Germany.
