Reading time less than a minute.Atalanta has taken Eljif Elmas from Leipzig, on loan with an option to buy. A surprise move by sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, who worked behind the scenes to provide Sarri with an additional option in midfield and beyond.
Elmas to Atalanta
He comes from Leipzig but knows Serie A well. From summer 2019 to January 2024, Elmas wore the Napoli jersey, playing a key role in winning the Scudetto in the 2022-2023 season. And Giuntoli as sporting director. Then the transfer to Leipzig and the return to Italy a year later, in January 2025, for a six-month loan to Torino. Last season he played again for Napoli, on loan, making 44 appearances across all competitions.
Versatile player, Elmas was born a midfielder. With strong offensive, technical, and insertion qualities, while ensuring balance in non-possession phases. If needed, he can also play in a more advanced position, as an attacking midfielder or winger: exactly where Atalanta needs him most today.
